The Most Sought After Specialty Coffee

Specialty coffee, also referred to as “premium coffee” or “gourmet coffee,” is coffee from beans that are grown in the most ideal climates under certain conditions and standards. Many of these have distinct flavors, differing greatly due to different soil types, climates, etc.

The most popular specialty coffee sold in America is Coffea Arabica; it is usually sold in whole beans and is the first choice for many coffee connoisseurs. These handpicked beans were first discovered in West Africa, then introduces in England in the late 1800’s. Arabica beans generally grow at cooler temperatures and higher altitudes than the typical coffees found on your grocer’s shelves.

Some other popular specialty blends include:

Guatemala Huehuetenango, which is some of the finest coffee from South America

Mandheling coffees, which are some of the most admired coffees worldwide and usually, have a low-key acidity with a heavy body resulting in a strong and complex flavor

Colombia Supremo from the Bucaramanga region, a region which produces some of the largest beans, making them high quality

Jamaica Blue Mountain, often touted as the best coffee in the world, and usually the most expensive.

If you’re just trying out new gourmet coffees, there’s certainly a world of fine flavors out there to taste. And if you’re new to premium coffee, it should definitely be a nice change from the canned coffees many of us had grown used to.
